OpenSea NFT Marketplace: Web3 and Performance

OpenSea is an international NFT platform founded in 2017 in the USA and one of the first in Web3 trading of digital assets. It supports thousands of NFT collections, millions of users and dozens of blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Polygon and Solana. The platform is known for transaction transparency and convenient tools for creators, collectors and traders, so speed, stability and security are the foundation of user trust.

Challenges

Promodex joined the development of OpenSea as a technology partner. This was not development from scratch but the improvement of a live platform serving millions of users at the same time: optimizing individual modules, increasing performance and implementing new Web3 tools without downtime.

Key user groups are NFT collectors, creators and artists, active Web3 traders, brands launching their own collections, and developers using the OpenSea API and smart contracts.

Solution

Audit of the live architecture. We analyzed components, load points and transaction nodes and modeled user scenarios so that changes could be safely deployed on the running platform.
Web3 functionality. We optimized blockchain interaction via ethers.js and web3.js and refined the smart contract interaction logic and crypto wallet authentication.
Performance. Server-side rendering and caching on Next.js, optimization of the REST API and caching mechanisms, AWS S3 integration, hosting on Vercel.
Interface. We modernized the component structure with Radix UI and Framer Motion, optimized animations and refined the PWA functionality for a stable mobile version.
Testing and monitoring. We ran load tests, fixed critical points, and connected Sentry for monitoring, GA4 for analytics and Intercom for user support.

Results

~1.5 s page load time after caching and rendering optimization.
Stable performance under peak loads of millions of requests.
Expanded support for Ethereum, Polygon and Solana in smart contract operations.
