Client

Kinodaran is a streaming platform for Armenian video content: movies, series, shows, exclusive releases and its own Originals. The service targets Armenian audiences around the world and is meant to be a single point of access to national media content — in the browser, on a smartphone, on Apple TV and on Android TV. The monetization model is hybrid: an ad-free paid subscription or free viewing with ads.

Challenges

Kinodaran didn't need a standalone video website — it needed a full streaming ecosystem with a single account, a subscription and personalized collections, so that a movie started on a phone could be resumed on a TV from the exact same moment.

The audience includes viewers of Armenian content in different countries, smartphone and Smart TV users, premium content subscribers and those who watch for free with ads.

All key devices: web, iOS, Android, Apple TV and Android TV with an equally convenient experience.
Two revenue models: a subscription for ad-free viewing and free access with ad breaks.
Seamless viewing: progress, lists and the subscription sync across devices.
Access control: quick TV pairing and management of the account's active devices.

Solution

The catalog as a content showcase. A home screen with a large carousel, promo banners and dynamic shelves: Originals, Exclusives, new arrivals, genres. On smartphones — bottom navigation with search and an upcoming releases section with trailers.
A title page that sells the viewing. Video preview, description, rating, age label, seasons and episodes, cast, recommendations and two buttons side by side: subscribe or watch with ads.
A stable player and hybrid monetization. Adaptive streaming that adjusts quality to connection speed, DRM content protection, ad breaks for free viewing, promo codes, gift certificates and purchases with access verification.
A TV interface. Key scenarios were adapted for Apple TV and Android TV: remote control navigation, clear focus states, a catalog for the big screen. The Connect to TV feature lets users sign in to their account on a TV without typing a password with the remote.
One account on all devices. Viewing progress, My List, Continue Watching, purchases and the subscription sync across web, mobile apps and TV, and the device management section shows and controls active sessions.

Results

Built the Kinodaran streaming platform on five platforms: web, iOS, Android, Apple TV and Android TV.
Hybrid monetization is live: ad-free subscription, free viewing with ads, promo codes and purchases.
Viewers resume watching from the exact same moment on any device.
A TV connects to the account without typing a password with the remote.
A catalog with Originals, Exclusives, upcoming releases and recommendations helps viewers discover content and come back to it via My List.

Technical details

Platform: web built with React, Next.js and TypeScript; iOS and Android apps; Apple TV (tvOS) and Android TV; AVPlayer and ExoPlayer players, HLS and DASH streaming, DRM protection.
