Case Study: Developing LifeTrace, an Online HealthTech Platform for Creating Digital Memories

Client

LifeTrace is an international social and tech startup registered in Lisbon that helps people and communities preserve memories, family stories and important life moments. On the platform, users create personal web pages, films or books as emotional digital gifts for anniversaries and weddings, or as a legacy for future generations.

Challenges

The task was to build an online service where several people prepare a gift together: they invite family and friends, collect texts, photos and videos, review the result and publish it. The platform had to combine emotional content, simple co-creation flows and a transparent GDPR-compliant privacy policy.

The users are families and friends, authors of memoir pages, caregivers and volunteers who record the stories of older people, as well as communities, NGOs, schools and clinics that create thank-you pages and tributes.

Simple co-creation: inviting participants, collecting materials, moderation and preview.
Social media sharing: attractive link previews and a tribute widget for community and organization websites.
Privacy to European standards: data processing consent, rights management, cookie policy.
Measurable funnel: analytics for every step, from starting a gift to publishing and sharing it.
Accessibility and mobile: baseline WCAG 2.1 requirements and correct behavior on phones.

Solution

Scenarios instead of pages. We started by detailing the use cases (anniversaries, legacy, stories of older people, community tributes) and mapping user journeys along with privacy requirements.
Step-by-step gift wizard. We designed creation as a sequence of steps: materials, styling, preview, publishing. Inviting participants and moderating their contributions were designed separately.
Component-based interface. We built a single-page application in React: content upload forms, social card previews and sharing. Dynamic link previews are generated for every page and tribute.
GDPR privacy. We added a cookie and data processing consent screen, terms of use and privacy policy pages, and a consent withdrawal mechanism. We tested accessibility, performance and social sharing.
Analytics and post-launch improvements. GA4 events via Google Tag Manager track the creation and sharing funnel. After launch, we refined the first steps for new users based on behavioral data.
