Case Study: Developing the Transit Public Transportation Mobile App

Client

Transit is a mobile service for planning public transit trips in Yerevan. Users simply enter a starting point and a destination, and the app suggests route options by bus, minibus and metro, with trip details and the path on a map. The service is designed both for city residents and for tourists who find it hard to navigate the local transit network.

Challenges

Finding public transit in Yerevan had to become a quick mobile flow: enter a direction, get trip options and view the route on a map, without manually studying the transit network or navigating a complex app.

The audience includes Yerevan residents, students and workers with regular commutes, tourists and visitors who need an interface in Armenian, Russian or English.

Route by two points: simple search from a starting point to a destination.
A clear map: the route line and the start and end points of the trip.
Route directory: buses and minibuses with route numbers and key stops.
Quick repeat trips: history of recent searches.
Three interface languages: Armenian, Russian, English.

Solution

Four sections instead of a complex menu. We analyzed urban travel scenarios and built bottom navigation with Home, History, Routes and Settings sections.
Search from the home screen. The Starting point and Destination fields are placed right on the home screen, so users get to route planning without extra steps.
Trip map. The selected route on Google Maps with start and end points and a clear route line.
Routes and history. A Routes list with Buses and Minibuses tabs, route numbers and key stops or directions. The History section saves recent searches and has a separate screen for new users with no trips yet.
Localization and transit data. Settings let users choose Armenian, Russian or English. The interface was connected to public transit data to generate trip options with bus and minibus numbers and metro stations.
